It’s a brew-tiful day to celebrate the vice of caffeine addicts everywhere.
Just in time for National Coffee Day, we whipped up a list of fancy coffee recipes (including a whipped one) so that you can participate from the comfort of your own kitchen. No barista is required—just you, an espresso or coffee maker, and a couple of basic items from your fridge and pantry.
Let’s dig in!
1. Butter Coffee
We’re starting with a basic one first. This butter coffee recipe doubles as a keto-friendly alternative, with the addition of butter providing satiety (to curb cravings) and a great-tasting burst of energy to start your day.
Using your trusty coffee maker, brew one cup of your favorite java blend. Then, pour it into a blender along with two tablespoons of unsalted butter and one tablespoon of coconut oil. Let everything whir until the mixture is smooth and frothy.
Although not inherently keto-friendly, flakey croissants pair well with this sweet beverage. Life’s all about balance, after all.
2. Dalgona Coffee
If you’ve got tweens living in your household, you might have heard all about this treat. All the rage on TikTok earlier this year, dalgona coffee (or as the kids call it, “whipped coffee”) can be made with just two tablespoons of each of the following ingredients: granulated sugar, cold water, and instant coffee. No coffee maker is needed—just a hand mixer or a whisk powered by a good, strong hand.

At this point, grab a glass and fill it most of the way with milk and ice. Finally, dollop and swirl the whipped coffee mixture on top, stirring before taking a sip of this viscous delight.
3. Caramel Brûlée Latte
Adding “brûlée” next to any dessert makes it sound so classy, right? Don’t let that intimidate you if you decide to tackle this coffee recipe.
Since making a caramel custard is a delicate art form that takes too long, we’ll settle for any caramel syrup and sauce you have lying around—we’re going for an evocation of the real thing, after all. We drew inspiration from Starbucks’s secret menu, so you know this one is going to be good.
Heat up some espresso (or a dark roast-coffee will do), and then mix in two to four tablespoons of caramel syrup and one tablespoon of whipped cream to achieve a foamier consistency. Once stirred, top your drink with more whipped cream and sprinkle some raw sugar. For optimal sophistication, we recommend drizzling some caramel sauce over the whole thing.
4. Cinnamon Cappuccino
For a drink that evokes the comforting feeling of bundling up by the fireplace, a cinnamon cappuccino accomplishes this and more. It’s a beverage that complements any pastry, bringing enough variation to make something as routine as a morning cup of coffee feel like a real treat.
First, steam a half-cup of low-fat milk using a microwave and a whisk. To do this without the need for barista-grade tools, pour your milk into a ceramic mug or glass jar, and warm it in the microwave on the highest setting for 30 seconds. Pour the milk into a medium bowl. Then, using a hand mixer, whisk your milk until it is foamy and bubbly, eventually adding in one tablespoon of cinnamon syrup.
Pour your steamed mixture into your coffee cup and add two shots of espresso. Finally, spoon a thin layer of foamed milk on top (we highly recommend investing in an espresso machine that does this) and toss in a pinch of ground cinnamon.
5. Italian Affogato
For our final coffee recipe, we opted for a last-course delicacy. You have the option to add one tablespoon of a nut liqueur, like Nocino or Frangelico, but we think this treat still soars without it. Its taste is so decadent, the dessert’s name is Italian for “drowned.”
In a glass mug or small serving glass, add one (or two!) scoops of vanilla ice cream, and pour in a shot of fresh espresso. Grate some dark chocolate over the whole thing, and if you want to add a bit of crunchy texture, incorporate some chopped nuts—we think hazelnuts suit this treat best.
